The Edgestar AP12001S 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner is capable of cooling up to 425 sq. ft. of enclosed space (depending on heat load). The unit includes an air vent hose and window kit that expands out to a generous 55" maximum. The AP12001S offers features such as a 24 hr. timer, dehumidifier function (81 pints per day), 3 fan speeds, digital thermostat control with a 61F to 89F setting range, remote control and caster wheels. The unit includes one silver ion filter to help reduce pollutants in your air such as bacteria, fungus and other microbes and a washable pre-filter allowing you to breathe easier. The unit features an internal condensate removal system that will handle all but the most humid environments saving you the trouble of manually emptying a water bucket and includes a direct gravity drain option as well. The Edgestar AP12001S utilizes eco- friendly R410a refrigerant and is an ideal choice for those seeking a 12,000 BTU unit that can get the job done while offering air cleaning abilities that most units in this class are not capable of thanks to the included silver ion filter system. We got this unit cause it started hitting 100's in Chicago and our central air AC (17 years old) stop working. We used this unit to cool the upstairs master bedroom which this unit does great. The cold air actually was going to other rooms and down the stairs. We weren't sure how well this AC would work it works very well. The cold air blows out straight not up towards the ceiling. It's easy to setup with almost no maintenance. The best part you don't have to upgrade your wiring or breaker. It works plugged into a normal household electrical outlet. The portable AC will not do the whole house but it will do a large size room within less than 1 hour. This unit is also listed as top 10 picks of 2012 for portable AC's.
